French people just elected their new president. In France, there are 2 rounds. The first round was the 10th<\/sup> April. There are always a lot of candidates for the 1st<\/sup> round. Anyone can be a candidate. A president can be elected on the first round if they get more than 50% of the votes. But that never happened. The best 2 candidates at the end of the first round compete for the role in the second round. They have 2 weeks to make the voters decide who to vote for. So, in theory and for the second half of the 20th<\/sup> century, the 2 remaining candidates were left (socialist party) and right. But not this time, or 5 years ago. We have a \u201cnormal\u201d candidate against the far right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les Fran\u00e7ais viennent d’\u00e9lire leur nouveau pr\u00e9sident. En France, il y a 2 tours. Lors du premier tour, le 10 avril, il y avait beaucoup de candidats comme \u00e0 chaque fois. N\u2019importe qui peut \u00eatre candidat. Un pr\u00e9sident peut \u00eatre \u00e9lu au premier tour s’il obtient plus de 50% des voix. Mais cela n’est jamais arriv\u00e9. Les 2 meilleurs candidats \u00e0 l’issue du premier tour s’affrontent au second tour. Ils ont 2 semaines pour convaincre les \u00e9lecteurs. Donc, en th\u00e9orie et pour la seconde moiti\u00e9 du 20e si\u00e8cle, les 2 candidats restants \u00e9taient de gauche (parti socialiste) et de droite. Mais pas cette fois, ni il y a 5 ans. Nous avons un candidat \u00ab normal \u00bb face \u00e0 l’extr\u00eame droite.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not right, this is scary and this has been happening too often everywhere, not just in France. Why do people believe that the far right is the solution to their problems? Why do people believe that hate and intolerance is the solution for a peaceful life? That is just beyond me. Why do they not look at what happened in the past? Why do they think it will be different this time? Are we all so na\u00efve? Stupid? Gullible?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quelque chose ne va pas, c\u2019est effrayant et \u00e7a se produit trop souvent, partout, et pas uniquement en France. Pourquoi les gens croient-ils que l’extr\u00eame droite soit la solution \u00e0 leurs probl\u00e8mes ? Pourquoi les gens croient-ils que la haine et l’intol\u00e9rance soient la solution pour une vie paisible ? \u00c7a me d\u00e9passe. Pourquoi ne regardent-ils pas ce qui s’est pass\u00e9 dans le pass\u00e9 ? Pourquoi pensent-ils que ce sera diff\u00e9rent cette fois ? Sommes-nous tous si na\u00effs ? Stupides ? Cr\u00e9dules ?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think that humans are lazy. We are all capable of good and bad. But being good, tolerant, generous takes efforts. And we are too lazy to make this effort. And by our inaction, our laziness, we become bad. We let the worst part of humanity take over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En fait, je pense que les humains sont paresseux. Nous sommes tous capables du bien et du mal. Mais \u00eatre bon, tol\u00e9rant, g\u00e9n\u00e9reux demande des efforts. Et nous sommes trop paresseux pour faire cet effort. Et par notre inaction, notre paresse, nous devenons mauvais. Nous laissons la pire partie de l’humanit\u00e9 prendre le dessus.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I ask you, what can I do to change this? I am nothing, just a grain of sand in the world. I sincerely ask for your advice. I feel so powerless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais je vous demande, que puis-je faire, moi, pour changer cela ? Je ne suis rien, juste un grain de sable dans le monde. Je me sens compl\u00e8tement impuissante.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, you came to my blog to follow my Asian adventure and you got a diatribe on humanity! I\u2019m sorry. I got carried away. I am very worried about the world we are building for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eh bien, vous \u00eates venus sur mon blog pour suivre mon aventure asiatique et vous recevez une diatribe sur l’humanit\u00e9 ! Je suis d\u00e9sol\u00e9e, je me suis laiss\u00e9e emporter. Je suis tr\u00e8s inqui\u00e8te sur le monde que nous construisons pour l’avenir.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nothing much happened in my life the last 4 months. I have had a very painful sciatica since January. I do not do much. Most days I don\u2019t even go out. It\u2019s a good thing everything was closed, I didn\u2019t miss out on too much! I am slowly getting better. My hope is to be fully functional at the end of June to come to France and UK. I\u2019ve got my tickets and I cross my fingers I\u2019ll be able to come. If you want to see me, get in touch so that I can plan to meet you! My provisional schedule is: London at the end of June, Avignon the first half of July and Brittany after, return to Hong Kong on August 7th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u2019ailleurs, il ne s’est pas pass\u00e9 grand-chose dans ma vie ces 4 derniers mois. J’ai une sciatique tr\u00e8s douloureuse depuis janvier. Je ne fais pas grand-chose. La plupart des jours, je ne sors m\u00eame pas. Heureusement que tout \u00e9tait ferm\u00e9, je n’ai pas l\u2019impression d\u2019avoir rat\u00e9 beaucoup ! Mon \u00e9tat s’am\u00e9liore petit \u00e0 petit. Mon objectif est d’\u00eatre compl\u00e8tement r\u00e9tablie fin juin pour venir en France et au Royaume-Uni. J’ai mes billets et je croise les doigts pour pouvoir venir. Si vous voulez me voir, contactez-moi pour que je puisse planifier pour qu\u2019on se voit ! Mon planning pr\u00e9visionnel est : Londres fin juin, Avignon la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9<\/em> de juillet et Bretagne apr\u00e8s, retour \u00e0 Hong Kong le 7 ao\u00fbt.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One good thing that happened, is that kids went back to school Tuesday 19th and gyms, cinemas and other entertainment centres reopened on Thursday 21st. And restaurants are now allowed to serve between 6pm and 10pm. We were out on the first night to celebrate in our favourite place in Stanley, The Bubbles and Wines, a wine bar (see below!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une bonne chose quand m\u00eame : les enfants ont repris l’\u00e9cole en vrai mardi 19 et les gymnases, cin\u00e9mas et autres centres de divertissement ont rouvert jeudi 21. Les restaurants sont d\u00e9sormais autoris\u00e9s \u00e0 servir entre 18h et 22h. Nous en avons profit\u00e9<\/em> d\u00e8<\/em>s le premier soir dans notre endroit pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00e0 Stanley, The Bubbles and Wines, un bar \u00e0 vin (voir ci-dessous !)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
