Je suis retourn\u00e9e \u00e0 Tai Kwun<\/a>, l’ancien commissariat de police de Central, pour r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer les c\u00e9ramiques que les enfants avaient peintes pour leurs grands-parents. Je me suis promen\u00e9e dans ce b\u00e2timent superbe.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>\nEmilie went on a residential trip to Tai Tam (i.e. 5 minutes from home!). She stayed for 3 days, 2 nights (5th to 7th Dec) and she had a great time. When I collected her on Friday lunchtime, she was tired and dirty and all the stuff in her bag was wet. That was expected! the day after, she had a birthday party at a stable. She was very worried about riding a pony but then she tried and loved it. The stables are really too far away to make it a regular feature, but maybe during the holiday she can have a go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emilie est all\u00e9e en classe verte \u00e0 Tai Tam (c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire \u00e0 5 minutes de la maison !). Elle est rest\u00e9e 3 jours et 2 nuits (du 5 au 7 d\u00e9cembre) et elle s’est bien amus\u00e9e. Lorsque je l’ai r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9e le vendredi midi, elle \u00e9tait fatigu\u00e9e et sale et tout le contenu de son sac \u00e9tait humide. Comme pr\u00e9vu ! Le lendemain, elle \u00e9tait invit\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019anniversaire d\u2019une amie qui se passait dans un centre \u00e9questre. Elle \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s inqui\u00e8te de monter un poney mais elle a quand m\u00eame essay\u00e9 et a ador\u00e9. Le centre \u00e9questre est vraiment trop loin pour en faire de mani\u00e8re r\u00e9guli\u00e8re, mais peut-\u00eatre qu\u2019elle pourra reessayer pendant les vacances.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
On the 7th, we had Alex’s 3-way conference. This is FIS’s version of parents’ evening. The kids have no class for the Friday and all the teachers are in the gymnasium, seated at small tables ready for speed dating, sorry speed meetings with parents and students. Parents book 7 minutes slots with all the teachers they want to have a chat with. Sebastien took the afternoon off, and we saw all of Alex’s teachers. In summary, they all said the same thing: Alex is bright but he is very much distracted and distracting the others. At least, the solution is universal for all subjects. But that doesn’t make it easy to implement. Without being too surprised, we were not exactly pleased with the day. And Alex neither. He has taken some good resolutions, let’s see how these turn out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Le 7, nous avons eu la journ\u00e9e parents \/ profs d’Alex. Les enfants n’ont pas de cours de la journ\u00e9e et tous les professeurs sont dans le gymnase, chacun assis \u00e0 une petite table, comme pour du speed-dating. Les parents r\u00e9servent des cr\u00e9neaux de 7 minutes pour pouvoir discuter \u00e0 3 (prof, parent, \u00e9l\u00e8ve). Une sonnerie sonne toutes les 5 et 7 minutes. S\u00e9bastien a pris l’apr\u00e8s-midi et nous avons vu tous les profs d’Alex. En bref, ils ont tous dit la m\u00eame chose : Alex est brillant mais il est dissip\u00e9 et il distrait les autres. Au moins, la solution est universelle pour toutes les mati\u00e8res. Mais cela ne veut pas dire que ce sera facile \u00e0 mettre en \u0153uvre. Nous n\u2019\u00e9tions pas tr\u00e8s surpris mais nous n\u2019\u00e9tions pas tr\u00e8s contents. Et Alex non plus. Il a pris de bonnes r\u00e9solutions, voyons o\u00f9 \u00e7a nous m\u00e8ne !<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alex’s birthday was on a Monday this year. We always have a cake and presents together on the actual birthday. But Mondays are always busy, especially for Sebastien who often comes back late. So, exceptionally, we had the family celebration on the 9th (a Sunday). Alex was very pleased with his presents. Emilie bought him a Hong Kong t-shirt. I always make a white chocolate cheesecake. This year, it was not set at all. I need to adapt my recipe to the products I find locally. I guess London’s double cream is much better than Hong Kong’s creme fraiche! Alex’s party was the following Sunday. We went to the trampoline park with 2 of his friends. They had a ball! Then they came back home for a bit of cake and played football downstairs until nightfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
L’anniversaire d’Alex \u00e9tait un lundi de cette ann\u00e9e. La tradition est de f\u00eater l\u2019anniversaire en famille le jour de l\u2019anniversaire. Mais les lundis sont toujours charg\u00e9s, surtout pour S\u00e9bastien qui revient souvent tard. Donc, exceptionnellement, nous f\u00eat\u00e9 l\u2019anniversaire en famille la veille, un dimanche. Alex \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s content de ses cadeaux. Emilie lui a achet\u00e9 un t-shirt de Hong Kong. Je fais toujours un cheesecake au chocolat blanc. Cette ann\u00e9e, il n\u2019\u00e9tait pas du tout solidifi\u00e9. Je dois adapter ma recette aux produits que je trouve ici. Je suppose que la double cr\u00e8me de Londres est bien meilleure que la cr\u00e8me fra\u00eeche de Hong Kong ! La f\u00eate d’Alex \u00e9tait le dimanche suivant. Nous sommes all\u00e9s faire du trampoline avec 2 de ses amis. Ils se sont r\u00e9gal\u00e9s ! Puis nous sommes revenus \u00e0 la maison pour un peu de g\u00e2teau et ils ont jou\u00e9 au football en bas jusqu’\u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trampoline!<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\nOn the 11th, I met Sarah again. We went to the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum<\/a> in Central. The museum is in a very nice building built by a wealthy Chinese family at the beginning of the 20th century. Dr Sun Yat-sen was very influential in establishing the Chinese republic at the beginning of the 20th century. We learned about the history of China between the end of the 19th and the mid 20s. That was very interesting. Small quirky museum, ideal for a couple of hours of cultured calm. On the 18th, I invited the 3 ladies I met who live in my building to have tea and cakes : Reiko on the 1st floor and Emi on the 38th floor, both Japanese married to French men and Haeju on the 14th floor, Korean married to an American man. That was lovely! We chatted until nearly lunchtime \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Le 11, Sarah et moi sommes all\u00e9s au mus\u00e9e Dr Sun Yat-sen<\/a> dans central. Le mus\u00e9e se trouve dans un tr\u00e8s beau b\u00e2timent construit par une riche famille chinoise au d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle. Le Dr Sun Yat-sen a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le tr\u00e8s important dans l’\u00e9tablissement de la r\u00e9publique chinoise au d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle. Nous avons appris un peu de l’histoire de la Chine entre la fin du XIXe si\u00e8cle et le milieu des ann\u00e9es 20. C’\u00e9tait tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant. Petit mus\u00e9e original, id\u00e9al pour quelques heures de calme cultiv\u00e9. Le 18, j’ai invit\u00e9 les 3 dames que je vois tous les matins au bus scolaire et qui habitent dans mon immeuble \u00e0 prendre un th\u00e9 et des g\u00e2teaux. Au 1er, Reiko et au 38eme, Emi qui sont japonaises et mari\u00e9es \u00e0 des Fran\u00e7ais et au 14eme, Haeju qui est cor\u00e9enne et mari\u00e9e \u00e0 un Am\u00e9ricain. C’\u00e9tait super ! Nous avons bavard\u00e9 jusqu’\u00e0 l’heure du d\u00e9jeuner \ud83d\ude42<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\nAnd then it was nearly Christmas! On the 19th, Sebastien’s parents arrived and we had a packed week. On the 20th, I showed them around Central. Sebastien was on holiday from the 21st to the 2nd of Jan, which was great. The kids’ holidays started on the 22nd until the 7th of Jan. So, on the 21st, that was just us, the 4 adults. We enjoyed the Peak, took the tram to Central and walked to Wanchai. On the 22nd, we went to see the Big Buddha on Lantau island. On the 23rd, Sebastien’s parents went on their own to see some markets in Kowloon. That was probably the worst day weather-like. They came back after nightfall completely soaked. On the 24th, Emilie, Francoise, Gilbert and I went to Sheung Wan to see some street art. We also saw the Man Mo Temple. We came back early to prepare the Christmas diner. Gilbert did all the work, preparing the stuffing for the chicken, stuffing the chickens and making sure they were cooked to perfection. We had a lovely time. The children stayed up with us and watched a movie quietly after opening all their presents. We didn’t do much on the 25th. We woke up late and by the time we were ready to leave it was 3 pm. So we went to Stanley to see the market stalls and all the touristy things there are there. On the 26th, we all went to visit Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple and the Good Wish garden next to it. It was a glorious day, sunny and warm. I came back home with the children while Sebastien took his parents to Kowloon and across the harbour in the boat. The 27th was Sebastien’s parents last day. They went back to Stanley market to get a few presents for the family and it was time to say good bye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Et voil\u00e0 c’est presque No\u00ebl ! Le 19, les parents de S\u00e9bastien sont arriv\u00e9s et nous avons eu une semaine bien remplie. Le 20, nous sommes all\u00e9s \u00e0 Central. S\u00e9bastien \u00e9tait en vacances du 21 d\u00e9cembre au 2 janvier, ce qui \u00e9tait super. Les enfants \u00e9taient en vacances du 22 d\u00e9cembre au 7 janvier. Le 21, nous \u00e9tions juste tous les 4 adultes. Nous avons appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 le Peak, pris le tram en direction de Central et avons march\u00e9 jusqu’\u00e0 Wanchai. Le 22, nous sommes all\u00e9s voir le Big Buddha sur l’\u00eele de Lantau. Le 23, les parents de S\u00e9bastien sont all\u00e9s seuls voir quelques march\u00e9s \u00e0 Kowloon. C’\u00e9tait probablement le jour avec le plus mauvais temps. Ils sont rentr\u00e9s apr\u00e8s la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit compl\u00e8tement tremp\u00e9s. Le 24, Emilie, Fran\u00e7oise, Gilbert et moi sommes all\u00e9s \u00e0 Sheung Wan pour voir du street art. Nous avons \u00e9galement vu le temple Man Mo. Nous sommes revenus t\u00f4t pour pr\u00e9parer le d\u00eener de No\u00ebl. Gilbert a fait le plat principal : pr\u00e9paration de la farce pour le poulet, remplissage des poulets et surveillance de la cuisson. Fran\u00e7oise s\u2019est occup\u00e9 des pommes qui \u00e9taient en accompagnement, j\u2019ai fait le dessert et S\u00e9bastien a fait l\u2019ap\u00e9ritif. Nous avons pass\u00e9 un moment tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9able. Les enfants sont rest\u00e9s avec nous et ont regard\u00e9 un film tranquillement apr\u00e8s avoir ouvert tous leurs cadeaux. Nous n’avons pas fait grand-chose le 25. Nous nous sommes r\u00e9veill\u00e9s tard et nous \u00e9tions enfin pr\u00eats \u00e0 partir \u00e0 15 heures. Nous sommes donc all\u00e9s \u00e0 Stanley pour voir le de march\u00e9 et toutes les choses touristiques qui s’y trouvent. Le 26, nous sommes tous all\u00e9s visiter le temple Sin Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai et le jardin Good Wish \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9. C’\u00e9tait une journ\u00e9e superbe, ensoleill\u00e9e et chaude. Je suis rentr\u00e9 \u00e0 la maison avec les enfants pendant que S\u00e9bastien emmenait ses parents \u00e0 Kowloon et traversait le port en bateau. Le 27 \u00e9tait le dernier jour des parents de S\u00e9bastien. Ils sont retourn\u00e9s au march\u00e9 Stanley pour acheter quelques cadeaux pour la famille et il \u00e9tait temps de dire au revoir.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>\nAlex got an extra Christmas present: braces. Quite painful for the first few days. He already wishes for the all things to come off. Just another 2 years, mate! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alex a eu un cadeau de plus : un appareil dentaire. Il a eu mal aux dents pendant quelques jours et il n’a qu’un envie, c’est que le traitement soit fini. Plus que 2 ans \u00e0 attendre !<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
We then had a couple of days by ourselves before Cecile, Amael and Adelaide arrived on the 29th. They stayed until the 2nd of Jan. On the 30th, we went on the same walk Sarah and I did last month from Deep water Bay to Repulse Bay. It was a beautiful day. On the 31st, Sebastien took Cecile and Amael into all the touristy things. They walked for hours! The kids stayed with me and they basically spent the day downstairs playing football. We had a very calm and civilised New Year dinner. The kids stayed up watching movies while we enjoyed good food and wine. On the 1st, we all went to Tai Tam country park and walked all the way across to Alex’s school It took us a couple of hours and it was steep. On the 2nd, I took Cecile, Amael, Adelaide and Emilie to the Maritime museum.It was nice having them over but the jetlag was hard for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nous avons ensuite pass\u00e9 quelques jours seuls avant l’arriv\u00e9e de C\u00e9cile, Ama\u00ebl et Ad\u00e9la\u00efde le 29. Ils sont rest\u00e9s jusqu’au 2 janvier. Le 30, nous avons fait la m\u00eame promenade que Sarah et moi avions fait le mois dernier de Deep Water Bay \u00e0 Repulse Bay. C’\u00e9tait une belle journ\u00e9e. Le 31, S\u00e9bastien a emmen\u00e9 C\u00e9cile et Ama\u00ebl voir tous les sites touristiques. Ils ont march\u00e9 pendant des heures ! Les enfants sont rest\u00e9s avec moi et ils ont pass\u00e9 la journ\u00e9e \u00e0 jouer au football en bas. Nous avons eu un r\u00e9veillon tr\u00e8s calme et civilis\u00e9. Les enfants ont regard\u00e9 des films pendant que nous appr\u00e9ciions un bon repas et du bon vin. Le 1er, nous sommes tous all\u00e9s au parc national de Tai Tam et avons march\u00e9 jusqu’\u00e0 l’\u00e9cole d’Alex. Cela nous a pris deux heures et c’\u00e9tait pentu. Le 2, j’ai emmen\u00e9 C\u00e9cile, Ama\u00ebl, Ad\u00e9la\u00efde et Emilie au mus\u00e9e de la Marine. Cette visite nous a fait plaisir, mais le d\u00e9calage horaire a \u00e9t\u00e9 difficile pour eux.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le 3, S\u00e9bastien est retourn\u00e9 au travail. Les enfants et moi n’avons pas fait grand-chose, profitant simplement du temps libre. Nous sommes all\u00e9s voir Aquaman au cin\u00e9ma et avons fait un peu de devoirs et c’\u00e9tait la fin des vacances.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I start the month all organised and well prepared and come the 20th I am late for the Christmas cards and the presents and all goes pear shape! Same this year. No exception. I think I fell in a time warp between the 3rd and the 17th of December :-).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Je fais toujours les m\u00eames erreurs en d\u00e9cembre. Je commence le mois bien pr\u00e9par\u00e9e et le 20, je suis en retard pour les cartes de No\u00ebl et les cadeaux ! Pareil cette ann\u00e9e. Je pense que je suis tombe chaque ann\u00e9e dans un trou noir entre le 3 et le 17 d\u00e9cembre :-).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
This month has been better. I felt good most of the time. So that is an improvement. I have also completed one of my many on-going projects: the DVD of family pictures for the year 2010. I promised Emilie to finish it (that was when we moved out of Greenwich in 2015). I am very happy it is done. And Emilie also. Now on to the photo album for 2010 and the DVD for 2011! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ce mois s’est mieux pass\u00e9. Je me suis sentie bien la plupart du temps. Je suis sur la bonne voie. J’ai \u00e9galement achev\u00e9 l’un de mes nombreux projets en cours : le DVD des photos de famille de l’ann\u00e9e 2010. J’avais promis \u00e0 Emilie de le terminer (quand nous avons quitt\u00e9 Greenwich en 2015). Je suis tr\u00e8s contente que ce soit fait. Et Emilie aussi. Maintenant il me faut faire l’album photo de 2010 et le DVD de 2011 !<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
I have so many projects and items that are on-going or that I want to do and there are so many little things that I do that sometimes it feels like I am not doing anything. Just because I cannot say “this is what I have done today”. It felt the same when I was working. I know I do a lot, but sometimes it feels good to say “I have completed a long project that took me 6 years to finish” and to have the recognition for it. Pat on my back \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n
