I don’t know about you but before coming to Hong Kong, I could not even spot it on a map. So I thought it would be helpful to give you a few clue about its geography.
Je ne sais pas pour vous, mais moi, je ne savais même pas situer Hong Kong sur une carte. Je me suis dit que ce serait utile de vous donner quelques indices sur sa géographie.
Hong Kong is an independent Chinese territory. It is China without being really China. Everything is translated in English and Mandarin (the official language). A lot of people speak enough English. For those (like me) who had no idea what Hong Kong was, it is a main island (Hong Kong Island) and a bit of mainland China on the other side of Victoria Harbour (Kowloon and the New Territories) and a lot of islands more or less big (the 2 biggest are Lantau and Lamma Islands). Most of the space is taken by natural parks. The forests are very lush. Which means that all the inhabited areas are very crowded.
Hong Kong est un territoire chinois indépendant. C’est la Chine sans être vraiment la Chine. Tout est traduit en anglais et en mandarin (la langue officielle). Beaucoup de gens parlent suffisamment anglais. Pour ceux (comme moi) qui n’avaient jamais regardé sur une carte, Hong Kong est constitué d’une île principale (l’île de Hong Kong), un peu de Chine continentale de l’autre côté du port de Victoria (Kowloon et les nouveaux territoires) et de nombreuses îles plus ou moins grandes (les deux plus grandes sont les îles de Lantau et de Lamma). La majeure partie de l’espace est occupée par des parcs naturels. Les forêts sont luxuriantes. Ce qui signifie que les zones habitées sont très peuplées.
