In a month, we will leave Hong Kong behind and start a new chapter of our lives in Singapore. I will have to rename my blog! Why? So that Alex and Emilie can physically go to school.
Dans un mois, nous quitterons Hong Kong et commencerons un nouveau chapitre de notre vie à Singapour. Je vais devoir renommer mon blog ! Pourquoi ? Pour qu’Alex et Emilie puissent physiquement aller à l’école.
We made up our mind in February, when all went to shit. We started exploring how to leave Hong Kong. Singapore and London were the two options. But we knew there was no chance for Sebastien to get a new position in London so moving there would have meant without him, at least at first. Singapore soon became the only viable option. We applied for schools in March and got a place for both kids in April. But it was very hard to get a positive answer from Sebastien’s work. We finally had the green light at the beginning of May, 2 weeks ago. After all this uncertainty, it feels good to have a clear path ahead.
Nous avons pris notre décision en février, quand tout allait si mal ici (écoles fermées, restrictions dans tous les sens). Nous avons commencé à explorer les différentes options : Singapour, Paris, Londres. C’était impossible que Sébastien obtienne un poste en Europe, et donc déménager là-bas aurait signifié partir sans lui, du moins au début. Du coup, Singapour est devenue la seule option viable. Nous avons postulé pour des écoles en mars et avons obtenu une place pour les deux enfants en avril. Mais le travail de Sébastien a mis un temps fou à se décider. Le feu vert est arrivé début mai, il y a 2 semaines. Après toute cette incertitude, cela fait du bien de savoir où nous allons.
I decided to concentrate on the positive things. We are going for 2 years and then we’re back in London. I’ve already done it, it cannot be worse (well, at least this time, there is no rug to pull off from under my feet!) The school we found for the children looks really good and I’m sure they’ll have a great time. We will be able to travel (to Europe and to the rest of Asia), and I already have my list of priority destinations.
J’ai décidé de me concentrer sur les choses positives. Nous partons pour 2 ans puis nous revenons à Londres. C’est du déjà fait, ça ne peut pas être pire (enfin, au moins cette fois, ma vie ne va pas etre chamboulée complètement !) L’école que nous avons trouvée pour les enfants a l’air vraiment bien et je suis sûre qu’ils y seront bien. Nous pourrons voyager (en Europe et dans le reste de l’Asie), et j’ai déjà ma liste de destinations à faire en priorité.
Saying good bye to Hong Kong will be difficult. It is strange to think that I will never come back here. I didn’t really like the place the way I like London, but I am familiar with the city now. I love the view from our flat, the busy streets, the quirkiness of Hong Kong life. I didn’t make many close friends, but I am going to miss them. Who knows if / when I’ll see them again?
Dire au revoir à Hong Kong sera difficile. C’est étrange de penser que je ne reviendrai jamais ici. Je n’aimais pas vraiment l’endroit (en tout cas pas comme Londres), mais j’y ai fait ma place, maintenant. J’aime la vue de notre appartement, les rues animées, l’excentricité de la vie hong-kongaise. Je ne me suis pas fait beaucoup de vrais amis, mais ils vont me manquer. Qui sait si/quand je les reverrai ?
I have my bucket list of things that I want to do before leaving. Hopefully, you will have a few more posts with nice pictures before the end of June. The last hurray before the curtain call.
J’ai quand même une petite liste de choses à voir avant de partir. J’espère pouvoir mettre encore quelques photos de mon expérience ici d’ici la fin du mois de juin. Et ensuite, le blog aura droit à un nouveau look en août.
