On a rainy Saturday afternoon, we went around Chinatown in Singapore. It was just a little glimpse but I could feel a bit of Hong Kong there. I found some small streets and familiar shops as well.
Un samedi après-midi pluvieux, nous avons fait un tour dans le Chinatown de Singapour. C’était juste un petit aperçu mais on sent un peu d’Hong Kong. J’ai retrouvé des petites rues et des articles familiers.
Shophouses are traditional buildings in Singapore. Shop on the ground floor (which is floor 1 here!) and two additional storeys for people to live in. They are quite deep with usually a courtyard in the middle. I snapped a few that I found original.
Les shophouses sont des bâtiments traditionnels de Singapour. Un boutique au rez-de-chaussée (qui est l’étage 1 ici !) Et deux étages supplémentaires pour le logement. Ces bâtiments sont profonds avec généralement une cour au milieu pour la lumière. J’en ai photographié quelques-uns que j’ai trouvés originaux.
Sebastien showed me a maze of covered streets with bars and restaurants that looked really nice. It was very quiet when we went but it is full of life as soon as sun sets!
Sébastien m’a montré un dédale de rues couvertes avec des bars et des restaurants qui avaient l’air vraiment sympas. C’était très calme quand nous y sommes allés mais c’est plein de vie dès la nuit tombée !
Beware, the ground can be very slippery when wet (Bon Jovi fans will get the joke!) and I slipped and scratched my knee on one of these stones.
Attention, le sol peut être très glissant lorsqu’il est mouillé (= Slippery When Wet pour les fans de Bon Jovi !) et j’ai évidemment glissé et écorché mon genou parterre.
I had a special thought for my Korean friend while passing in front of this restaurant. She introduced me to Korean BBQ and it’s delicious! Apparently, Korean cuisine is very trendy at the moment in Singapore.
J’ai eu une pensée spéciale pour mon amie coréenne en passant devant ce restaurant. Elle m’a fait découvrir le barbecue coréen et c’est délicieux ! Apparemment, la cuisine coréenne est très tendance en ce moment à Singapour.
The next few pictures are interesting sights I spotted. (First pic) There are plenty of people riding bikes here. And as a pedestrian, you share the space with bikes so you have to be careful. You can also find rental bikes, pretty amazing! (Second pic) I really like this building. It looks like the plants are going to eat it. (Third pic) This one storey building looks a bit out of place in the middle of the sky-scrappers. It is a food court apparently. Something to try!
Les trois photos qui suivent sont intéressantes pour différentes raisons. (Première photo) Beaucoup de gens font du vélo ici. Et en tant que piéton, vous partagez l’espace avec les vélos alors il faut faire attention. On trouve également des vélos de location, c’est assez incroyable ! (Deuxième photo) J’aime vraiment ce bâtiment. On dirait que les plantes vont le manger. (Troisième photo) Ce bâtiment d’un étage semble un peu déplacé au milieu des gratte-ciels. C’est apparemment ce qu’on appelle un “food court”, c’est-à-dire une halle avec des tas de petits boui-bouis pour manger. Quelque chose à essayer!
