Sebastien and I had another occasion to go for a walk by ourselves. We went in the opposite direction from last time (see Admiralty to Wan Chai – 18-10-2020). We followed the waterfront until the tip of Hong Kong Island near Kennedy Town.
Sébastien et moi avons eu une nouvelle occasion de nous promener seuls. Nous sommes allés dans la direction opposée de la dernière fois (voir Admiralty to Wan Chai – 18-10-2020). Nous avons suivi le front de mer jusqu’à la pointe de l’île de Hong Kong près de Kennedy Town.
Facing the sea / Face à la mer
We first walked through Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park. I’m not going to bore you with a history lesson, but I encourage you to read a bit more about Sun Yat Sen. I wen to the museum dedicated to him last year and it was very interesting. I never learnt any of this in school. So this is a small extract of the Wikipedia page about him: Sun Yat-sen (12 November 1866 – 12 March 1925) was a Chinese politician, physician, and political philosopher, who served as the provisional first president of the Republic of China and the first leader of the Kuomintang (Nationalist Party of China). He is referred as the “Father of the Nation” in the Republic of China for his instrumental role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty during the Xinhai Revolution.
Tout d’abord, nous avons traversé le parc commémoratif Sun Yat Sen. Je ne vais pas vous ennuyer avec une leçon d’histoire, mais je vous encourage à en lire un peu plus sur Sun Yat Sen. Je suis allé au musée qui lui était dédié l’année dernière et c’était très intéressant. Je n’ai rien appris de tout cela à l’école. Voici un petit extrait de la page Wikipédia à son sujet : Sun Yat-sen (12 novembre 1866 – 12 mars 1925) était un homme politique, médecin et philosophe politique chinois, qui a été le premier président provisoire de la République de Chine et le premier dirigeant du Kuomintang (Parti nationaliste chinois). After the park, there’s just a path along the water punctuated with piers, some of them still in use. There are amateur fishermen all along. The views are wonderful.
Après le parc, il n’y a qu’un chemin le long de l’eau jalonné de jetées, dont certaines sont encore en service. Il y a des pêcheurs amateurs tout du long. Les vues sont magnifiques.
There are fitness stations everywhere in Hong Kong. They are made to help doing Tai Chi postures. We saw this man cycling the bike: his eyes were close and he really looked like he was having a nap while pedaling.
Il y a des stations de fitness partout à Hong Kong. Elles sont faites pour aider à faire des postures de Tai Chi. Nous avons vu cet homme faire du vélo, ses yeux étaient fermés et il avait vraiment l’air de faire une sieste tout en pédalant.
At the end of our walk, we arrived at the Western District Public Cargo Working Area. This pier is still in use with containers everywhere but it looks like the containers are not going anywhere anymore and are used as workshops.
À la fin de notre promenade, nous sommes arrivés au Western District Public Cargo Working Area (= zone de travail du fret public du district ouest). Cette jetée est toujours utilisée avec des conteneurs partout mais il semble que les conteneurs ne vont plus nulle part et sont utilisés comme ateliers ou autre.
There were a lot of people, which was odd as there was nothing really to see. And then we realised they were there to take pictures of the setting sun. So I joined the flow and took a few as well myself 😉
Il y avait beaucoup de monde, ce qui était étrange car il n’y avait vraiment rien à voir. Et puis nous avons réalisé qu’ils étaient là pour prendre des photos du soleil couchant. J’ai donc suivi le mouvement et en ai pris moi-même quelques-unes 😉
Look on the map where this is! On one side there’s Kennedy Town, a very busy area and on the other side, the sea and Kowloon.
Regardez où c’est sur la carte ! D’un côté il y a Kennedy Town, un quartier très dense et de l’autre côté, la mer et Kowloon.
