I wanted to get us out of the house and I saw this easy hike with a chance to see monkeys. I knew that the kids would want to go. Still we had to take the underground and the bus to go there and it took us a good hour. By the time we reached the start of the trail, both were very grumpy and just wanted to eat at Mac Donald’s. Keep calm and ignore the children!
Je ne voulais pas rester enfermée avec les enfants pendant les vacances. J’ai vu cette randonnée facile avec une possibilité de voir des singes. Je savais que ça plairait aux enfants. Nous devions quand même prendre le métro et le bus pour y aller et cela nous a pris une bonne heure. Quand nous sommes arrivés au début de la randonnée, les enfants étaient déjà grincheux et voulaient juste aller manger au Mac Donald’s. Restons ZEN !
We got off the bus at Shek Lei Pui Reservoir. This stop is also the starting point of a section of the Maclehose trail. We were greeted by one monkey with an injured hand. It was nice enough. At least, Alex and Emilie were happy, they saw a monkey up close!
Nous sommes descendus du bus au réservoir Shek Lei Pui. Cet arrêt est également le point de départ d’une section du sentier Maclehose. Nous avons été accueillis par un singe avec une main blessée. Il était assez sympa. Au moins, Alex et Emilie étaient heureux d’avoir vu un singe de près !
We started walking north to cross the park. First we walked over a dam over with breathtaking views.
Nous avons commencé à marcher vers le nord pour traverser le parc. Nous avons d’abord traversé un barrage avec une vue imprenable.
At first we didn’t see any monkeys and we just needed to walk. The walk was relatively easy (meaning flat). We were on the road with very few cars. There are big signs about monkeys, not feeding them, not being aggressive, warnings about what to do to keep safe, etc. Emilie got very worried looking at a picture of a very angry monkey with its teeth barred. We were a bit scared by a couple of wild dogs. We weren’t sure what to do so we just pretended they weren’t there and kept on walking. We were close to a man and his dog. At first, we thought the dog was a stray but then we realised they were together. However, monkeys do not like dogs. So we had to walk fast to get away from them if we wanted to have any chance at spotting any monkey. And we did!
Au début, nous n’avons vu aucun singe et il n’y avait qu’à marcher. La marche était relativement facile (= plat). Nous étions sur la route avec très peu de voitures. Il y a des panneaux qui donnent plein d’information sur ce qu’il faut faire ou ne pas faire avec les singes, etc. Emilie était très impressionnée en voyant la photo d’un singe très en colère, les dents pointues et découvertes. Nous sommes passés à côté de 2 chiens sauvages qui n’avaient pas l’air très sympa. Nous ne savions pas trop comment réagir alors nous avons simplement prétendu qu’ils n’étaient pas là et nous avons continué à marcher. Nous étions près d’un homme et de son chien. Au début, nous pensions que le chien était errant, puis nous avons réalisé qu’ils étaient ensemble. Cependant, les singes n’aiment pas les chiens. Nous avons donc dû marcher vite pour nous en éloigner pour pouvoir avoir une chance de repérer un singe. Et ça a marché !
Soon enough, we saw monkeys in trees, by the road side, etc. They were peaceful and didn’t really care about us. We stayed far away from them anyway.
Bientôt, nous avons vu des singes dans les arbres, au bord de la route, etc. Ils étaient paisibles et ne se souciaient pas vraiment de nous. Nous sommes restés loin d’eux quand même.
And that’s the face of a 13 year old who just saw 2 monkeys getting it!
Et ça, c’est le visage d’un garçon de 13 ans qui vient de voir deux singes se monter dessus !
Looking around, you’d think you’re far away from civilisation.
En regardant autour, on se croit loin de toute civilisation.
But not so far, unfortunately. Humans are polluting everything. First we saw a shack and next to it a dumping site. Such a shame!
Mais pas si loin, malheureusement. Les humains polluent tout. Nous avons d’abord vu une cabane et à côté un dépotoir. Quel dommage !
We were nearly at the end of the trail. We got a bit lost. Thankfully, the man and his dog were not far away and they knew where they were going and showed us the way. They also helped us when there was a lone dog in the middle of the path that didn’t look too friendly. And all of a sudden, we were back in the city.
Nous étions presque au bout du chemin. Nous nous sommes un peu perdus. Heureusement, l’homme et son chien n’étaient pas loin, ils savaient où ils allaient et nous ont indiqué le chemin. Ils nous ont également aidés quand il y avait un chien seul au milieu du chemin qui n’avait pas l’air très amical. Et tout à coup, nous étions de retour en ville.
And these are my lovely children (yes, it happens that they are lovely together, I’ve got the proof!)
Et ce sont mes gentils enfants (oui, il arrive qu’ils soient gentils quand ils sont ensemble, j’en ai la preuve !)
And we did go to Mac Donald’s after the trail 🙂
