The first week back after my trip to London, I was very tired. I didn’t do much more than the minimum (i.e. laundry, cooking, etc.). I even snored most nights! Poor Sebastien! I’m lucky I didn’t have to go to work so I could just take it easy.
De retour de Londres, j’ai été très fatiguée pendant toute une semaine. Je n’ai pas fait beaucoup plus que le minimum (lessives, cuisine, etc.). J’ai même ronflé la plupart des nuits ! Pauvre Sébastien ! Heureusement, je n’ai pas à aller au travail et je peux le prendre cool.
We booked a week of holiday at the Club Med in Sanya, in China. So I needed to get us visas. I looked on the internet and in my guide books but I still wasn’t sure what I needed to do. I found an address for the visa bureau and I went there Friday 8th. There was a sign at the door saying that I needed to go to another building for my visa. Fortunately, the building was literally across the road. I went there and got the application forms and all the information about what additional documents were necessary. During the weekend, I filled the 4 application forms, got all the documents that were needed, included photo ID. I went back with all my paperwork on Tuesday 12th. I queued for about 10 minutes. The first person I saw checked my applications and documents and told me I needed birth certificates for the children. So I left. I came back the following day hopeful I was going to get our visas. Same thing, I queued for around 10 minutes and then I was greeted by a first person, checking my application. All seemed ok so she gave me a number. I waited another 5 minutes and then went to see another person who processed my applications one by one. He was nice and efficient. As it happened, my photo was not valid as I had earrings on. I had to get another one, which was very easy as there are some photo booths in the office. The admin person waited for my new photo and processed all the applications. He then gave me another number. I waited for another 5 minutes to go to the cashier. As it happens I needed to pay cash and I didn’t have enough. So I left the building to find a cash dispenser and then I was able to pay. All in all, it took me about an hour. Pretty efficient! Our visas were ready 5 days later. It took me another 5 minutes to get them. I am impressed by this administration!
Nous avons réservé une semaine de vacances au Club Med à Sanya, en Chine. Il me fallait donc des visas. J’ai regardé sur Internet et dans mes guides, mais ce n’était pas très clair. J’ai trouvé une adresse pour le bureau des visas et j’y suis allé vendredi 8. Il y avait un panneau à la porte disant que je devais me rendre dans un autre bâtiment pour obtenir mon visa. Heureusement, le bâtiment était littéralement de l’autre côté de la rue. J’y suis allée et j’ai obtenu les formulaires et tous les documents supplémentaires à fournir. Pendant le week-end, j’ai rempli les 4 formulaires et rassemblé les documents nécessaires, y compris les photos d’identité. Je suis retournée au bureau des visas mardi 12 avec tous les papiers. J’ai fait la queue pendant environ 10 minutes. La première personne que j’ai vue a vérifié mon dossier et m’a dit qu’il me manquait les certificats de naissance des enfants. Je suis rentrée à la maison les chercher. Je suis revenue le lendemain avec un dossier complet. Comme la veille, j’ai fait la queue pendant environ 10 minutes, puis j’ai été accueillie par une première personne qui a vérifié mon dossier et m’a donné un ticket pour attendre. J’ai attendu 5 minutes supplémentaires puis je suis allée à un autre guichet. L’employé a traité mes demandes une par une. Il était poli et efficace. Ma photo d’identité n’était pas valide car j’avais des boucles d’oreilles. Il m’a fallu en faire une autre, ce qui était très facile car il y avait des photomatons dans le bureau. L’agent a attendu que j’ai fait ma nouvelle photo et a traité toutes les demandes. Il m’a ensuite donné un autre numéro. J’ai attendu encore 5 minutes pour aller payer. Malheureusement, il ne prennent que les espèces et je n’avais pas assez. Je suis descendue pour aller au distributeur et j’ai ensuite pu payer. Au total, cela m’a pris environ une heure. Assez efficace ! Nos visas étaient prêts 5 jours plus tard. Il m’a fallu attendre encore 5 minutes pour les obtenir. Je suis impressionné par cette administration !
The 9th, we were invited for diner with the children. It was quite late for the children, but we wanted to stay a bit longer. So we called a taxi and sent Alex and Emilie home by themselves. We were just 20 minutes away from home. When we arrived home an hour later, Alex was in bed sleeping and Emilie was as per picture below! All the lights were switched on. Emilie doesn’t like to be alone!
Le 9, nous étions invités à dîner avec les enfants. Il était assez tard pour les enfants, mais nous voulions rester un peu plus longtemps. Du coup, nous avons mis Alex et Emilie dans un taxi et renvoyé Alex et Emilie direction la maison. Nous étions à seulement 20 minutes de chez nous. Quand nous sommes arrivés à la maison une heure plus tard, Alex était au lit en train de dormir et Emilie était comme sur la photo ci-dessous ! Toutes les lumières étaient allumées. Emilie n’aime pas être seule !
Something important also happened in March: I decided to start a web designer course. I think that could be a good new career for me. I find this interesting and there are some areas that are quite challenging. But also, this is something I can potentially do from home or in a flexible way. I can also propose my services to small entities. But that’s for later. First, get the training done and then, we’ll see. I got the idea while talking to one of my friends who is starting her business in Hong Kong. She will need a website to sell her items and I thought: “I can help her with this”.
J’ai pris une décision importante en mars: je me suis inscrite un cours de web design. Je pense que cela pourrait être une bonne carrière pour moi. Je trouve cela intéressant et certains domaines sont assez difficiles. Mais aussi, c’est quelque chose que je peux potentiellement faire de chez moi ou de manière flexible. Je peux aussi proposer mes services à de petites entreprises. Mais ça, c’est pour plus tard. Tout d’abord, il faut que je fasse toute la formation et ensuite, nous verrons. J’ai eu cette idée en discutant avec une de mes amies qui monte son entreprise à Hong Kong. Elle aura besoin d’un site Web pour vendre ses articles et je me suis dit: «Je peux l’aider avec ça».
The 18th, after getting the visas, I decided to stop at Repulse Bay and walk home through the country park. Well! It was NOT a walk in the park, but I’m proud of reaching the end! Tale here.

I went with Haeju to St Anne’s church in Stanley. She plays piano for the choir and needed to get a few music scores. I really liked this church. It is very modern and very different to its French counterparts but the light and the sobriety of the decor was perfect.
Je suis allée avec Haeju à l’église Sainte-Anne de Stanley. Elle joue du piano pour la chorale et avait besoin de quelques partitions. J’ai vraiment aimé cette église. Elle est très moderne et très différente de ses homologues françaises mais la lumière et la sobriété de la décoration étaient parfaites.
I’ve already told you about Hong Kong love of dogs. Here is another proof of this somewhat twisted love. There was a dog show organised in Stanley at the weekend. I only went there for a few minutes. There were a lot of dogs everywhere. Stalls selling stuff for dogs and dog-owners. But most importantly, there was a competition going on where dog-owners were creating clothes for their dogs and sewing directly on the dogs. I must say I was impressed by the calm of these animals. But this is a bit crazy!
Je vous ai déjà parlé de l’amour des chiens à Hong Kong. Voici une autre preuve de cet amour un peu tordu. Une exposition canine a été organisée à Stanley le dernier week-end de mars. Je n’ai fait que passer. Il y avait beaucoup de chiens partout. Des étals vendant des choses pour les chiens et les propriétaires de chiens. Mais surtout, il y avait une compétition où les propriétaires de chiens créaient des vêtements pour leurs chiens et cousaient directement sur ceux-ci. Je dois dire que j’ai été impressionnée par le calme de ces animaux. Mais c’est quand même un peu fou !
