We now have a good routine. We get up in the morning between 8 and 9. We take our time to get ready and have breakfast. I do my stuff (I go shopping or tidy or other things) and the kids watch their screens. Then we have lunch. We always go out in the afternoon for a few hours. I always try to have a goal, even if it is going to get Alex’s stuff for the school. And we try to go to a new area in town. When we get back home, we go to the swimming pool, if it’s open. after that, we get ready for bed, prepare diner and wait for Sebastien to come back home to tell him all that we’ve done. Emilie goes to bed between 8.30 and 9. We generally play cards with Alex and Sebastien and Alex goes to bed between 9.30 and 10.
Nos journées sont toutes un peu pareil, maintenant. Nous nous levons le matin entre 8 et 9 heures. Nous prenons notre temps pour nous préparer et prendre notre petit déjeuner. Je fais mes petites affaires (je vais faire les courses ou bien je range ou je fais du sport, etc.) pendant que les enfants sont sur leurs écrans. Nous déjeunons vers 13 h. Nous sortons toujours dans l’après-midi pendant quelques heures. J’essaie toujours d’avoir un but, même si ce n’est qu’aller acheter les fournitures scolaires d’Alex par exemple. Et nous essayons d’aller dans une nouvelle zone de la ville. De retour, nous allons à la piscine si elle est ouverte. Après cela, pyjama et préparation du dîner, Nous et attendons Sébastien pour diner ensemble et lui raconter tout ce que nous avons fait. Emilie se couche entre 8h30 et 9h. Sébastien, Alex et moi jouons généralement aux cartes et Alex se couche entre 9h30 et 10h.
There’s plenty of time during the day to chill and do our stuff. But there’s also plenty of time to get bored and sometimes, there’s tension between us 3. But I guess it’s normal when you live all together.
Nous avons beaucoup de temps pendant la journée pour nous détendre. Mais il y a aussi beaucoup de temps pour nous ennuyer et parfois, l’ambiance est électrique entre tous les 3. Mais je suppose que c’est normal quand on est constamment ensemble.
On Monday, the sun was out so we went to Repulse Bay Beach. We also needed to get my glasses at Christophe’s. We hopped on a taxi to get there but the driver didn’t speak English at all and didn’t understand where we wanted to go. We thought we recognised Christophe’s building and told him to stop. But we were wrong and we were a bit lost. Fortunately, we were closed to the beach, so we went there. Alex and Emilie had a lot of fun in the waves. The beach was crowded with tourists. Coaches stop there all the time for tourists to take pictures. But we had a good time nonetheless. Emilie’s swimsuit was full of sand and that must have been really uncomfortable, especially as the sand is coarse on this beach. After that we took another taxi to get to Christophe’s but the driver was again not speaking English so we just let this one go and waited for a driver who could understand us. And we got home with my glasses in no time!
Lundi, il faisait beau alors nous sommes allés à Repulse Bay Beach. Nous devions aussi aller chercher mes lunettes de vue chez Christophe. Nous avons sauté dans un taxi pour y aller mais le chauffeur ne parlait pas du tout l’anglais et ne comprenait pas où nous voulions aller. Nous avons cru reconnaître le bâtiment de Christophe et lui avons dit d’arrêter. Malheureusement, nous nous étions trompés et nous étions un peu perdus. Heureusement, nous étions près de la plage. Alex et Emilie se sont bien amusés dans les vagues. La plage était bondée de touristes. Les autocars s’arrêtent tout le temps pour que les touristes prennent des photos. Mais nous avons quand même passé un bon moment. Le maillot de bain d’Emilie était plein de sable et ça devait être vraiment inconfortable, d’autant plus que le sable est gros sur cette plage. Après cela, nous avons pris un autre taxi pour nous rendre chez Christophe, mais le chauffeur ne parlait pas non plus anglais, alors nous l’avons laissé partir et avons attendu un autre qui pouvait nous comprendre. Nous sommes rentrés à la maison avec mes lunettes en un rien de temps !

On Monday evening, I also tried to make a Chinese stir fry with some rice noodles. We also bought some frozen dim sum (not exactly typical, but I can be sure there is nothing Alex cannot eat).
Lundi soir, j’ai aussi essayé de faire un recette chinoise avec des nouilles de riz. Nous avons également acheté du dim sum (beignets à la vapeur) surgelés (pas exactement typique, mais au moins, je suis sûre qu’il n’y a rien qu’Alex ne puisse pas manger).
The result was mixed. I think I am missing a very important ingredient: soy sauce!
Ce n’était pas terrible. Je crois qu’il manquait un ingrédient essentiel : la sauce soja !
Tuesday, it was raining. We didn’t really want to go out. Besides, the swimming pool was closed due to thunderstorm warnings. We had to go out to get Alex’s HKID card. All residents aged 11 and over must have one. We had an appointment at 4 pm. I was extra cautious and we were 30 minutes early. So we had an ice cream at Mc Donald’s. I was impressed by the Hong Kong administration. We arrived at a desk 5 minutes early for our appointment (no queue). The man checked our paperwork and gave us a number. we waited about 20 minutes to be called at another desk. The lady checked our paperwork, took a picture of Alex and his fingerprints. Then we had to wait less than 10 minutes to see an immigration clerk who checked our paperwork and told us to come back get the card from the 28th August. All that took less than an hour.
Mardi, il pleuvait. Nous n’avions pas vraiment envie de sortir. En plus, la piscine était fermée pour cause d’orage. Nous avons dû sortir pour faire la carte d’identité de Hong Kong (HKID) d’Alex. Tous les résidents âgés de plus de 11 ans doivent en avoir une. Nous avions rendez-vous à 16 heures. J’avais compté très large pour être sure de ne pas être en retard. Du coup, et nous avion 30 minutes d’avance. Nous sommes allés prendre une glace chez Mc Donald pour patienter. Je suis impressionnée par l’administration de Hong Kong : Nous sommes arrivés 5 minutes en avance pour notre rendez-vous (pas de file d’attente). A la réception, l’homme a vérifié nos papiers et nous a donné un numéro. Nous avons attendu environ 20 minutes avant être appelés à un autre bureau. Une autre dame a vérifié nos papiers puis a pris une photo d’Alex et ses empreintes digitales. Ensuite, nous avons encore attendu moins de 10 minutes pour voir un employé de l’immigration qui a lui aussi vérifié nos papiers et nous a dit de revenir chercher la carte à partir du 28 août. En tout, cela a pris moins d’une heure.
Wednesday, we went to see Emilie’s new school. There is no quick way to go there, so we took a taxi. The school door was opened, so we had a look inside and had a chat with a very nice lady in the admin office. We took a bus back and it took us about an hour to go home. So Emilie’s going to be the lucky one going to school in a taxi for the first 2 weeks.
Mercredi, nous sommes allés voir la nouvelle école d’Emilie. Il n’y a pas de bus direct pour y aller, alors nous avons pris un taxi. La porte de l’école étant ouverte, nous avons jeté un coup d’œil à l’intérieur et discuté avec une dame très gentille au bureau de la vie scolaire. Nous avons pris un bus pour rentrer qui nous a fait faire un long détour. Ça nous a pris environ une heure pour rentrer chez nous. Résultat, nous irons en taxi à l’école tous les jours pendant les deux premières semaines.
Thursday, we didn’t do much. I was really annoyed by Alex so I told him that I didn’t want to have anything to do with him on Thursday. He had to take care of himself. And he did. He played on his phone most of the day, but he went out to buy some food and he cooked his meals. Emilie and I had time to do things together and it was a relaxing day. I’m not going to repeat this experience, because it is not good for Alex to be on his phone that long. But he learned a few things, like being an adult is not doing whatever you want whenever you want! His meals were not really balanced (a lot of pasta and a few broccoli) or varied (same lunch and dinner) but he prepared his food and cleaned the kitchen afterward and did the dishes.
Jeudi, nous ne sommes pas sortis. Alex m’avait vraiment énervé la veille, et je lui ai dit qu’il se débrouille tout seul jeudi. Et c’est ce qu’il a fait. Il a joué sur son téléphone presque toute la journée, mais il est sorti pour acheter de la nourriture et il a préparé ses repas. Emilie et moi avons eu du temps pour être ensemble et ce fut une journée calme et relaxante. Cela dit, cette expérience ne se renouvellera pas, car ce n’est pas bon pour Alex de passer autant de temps sur son téléphone. Mais il a au moins appris qu’être adulte ca ne veut pas dire qu’on peut faire ce qu’on veut quand on veut ! Ses repas n’ont pas été vraiment équilibrés (beaucoup de pâtes et quelques brocolis) ou variés (même menu au déjeuner et au dîner) mais il a préparé sa nourriture, rangé la cuisine après son passage et fait la vaisselle.
Friday, it was raining again, and quite heavily. We took the tram to go to the cinema to watch Hotel Transylvania 3. And we were a bit wet. After the cinema, we went to the bank. We had a quick lunch in a familiar place 🙂 and then we headed home. We didn’t do much for the rest of the day.
Vendredi, il pleuvait encore, et assez fort. Nous avons pris le tram pour aller au cinéma pour voir Hôtel Transylvanie 3. Nous y sommes arrivés un peu mouillés. Après le cinéma, nous sommes allés à la banque. Nous avons pris un déjeuner rapide dans un endroit familier 🙂 et nous sommes rentrés chez nous. Nous n’avons pas fait grand-chose le reste de la journée.
Saturday was very grey, but it didn’t rain so we went to the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens. The park is free, which was very surprising. They have lovely birds, a few tortoises and a fair amount of monkeys and lemurs. We loved the monkeys! It was very stuffy, but we had a lovely time. It is a green island of calm in the middle of the sky-scrappers.
Samedi le ciel était très couvert, mais il ne pleuvait pas, alors nous sommes allés au jardin zoologique et botanique de Hong Kong. Le parc est gratuit, ce qui était très surprenant. Il y a de beaux oiseaux, quelques tortues et beaucoup de singes. Nous avons adoré les singes ! Nous avons passé un très bon moment. C’est un îlot de calme et de verdure au milieu de la ville bruyante.

On Sunday, Sebastien and Emilie went to the lego shop. Emilie got some money from her grand-parents for her birthday and wanted to buy a new lego. Alex wanted to spend his pocket money building a new Warhammer army so we went to the Warhammer shop. I made him walk there (30 minute going there and back). He wasn’t happy ! So Sunday was construction day with lego and Warhammer 🙂 Sebastien and I sneaked out to have a stroll together. It’s good to have older children who do not require supervision! In the evening, Alex showed us a video of a monkey doind a massage to a lion and when the lion roars back, the monkey whack it in the face. Sebastien and Alex laughed to tears!
Dimanche, Sébastien et Emilie sont allés au magasin Lego. Emilie a reçu de l’argent de ses grands-parents pour son anniversaire et voulait acheter un nouveau lego. Alex voulait dépenser son argent de poche dans une nouvelle armée de Warhammer, alors nous sommes allés au magasin Warhammer. Je l’ai fait marcher pour y aller (30 minutes aller et retour). Il n’était pas content, il a râlé tout du long ! Dimanche était le jour de la construction entre lego et Warhammer 🙂 Sébastien et moi sommes allés nous promener ensemble tous les deux. C’est cool d’avoir des enfants plus grand qui n’ont pas besoin de surveillance ! Dans la soirée, Alex nous a montré une vidéo d’un singe en train de faire un massage à un lion et lorsque le lion rugit, le singe le frappe sans avoir peur. Sébastien et Alex ont ri aux larmes!
