Third night and the children slept through without waking us up. They got up around 10.30 am! I, on the other hand had trouble sleeping and stayed awake for a couple of hours during the night. We’re getting there!
C’est notre troisième nuit à Hong Kong et les enfants ont dormi sans nous réveiller. Ils se sont levés vers 10h30 ! Par contre, j’avais du mal à dormir et je suis restée éveillé quelques heures pendant la nuit.
I went back to the bank to try and get internet banking working. A lady told me I just needed to go on the internet and everything was explained. I did what she said and realised I needed a pin that I didn’t have. So I will have to go back tomorrow. Again …
Je suis retournée à la banque pour essayer de faire fonctionner la banque par internet. Une dame m’a dit que j’avais juste besoin d’aller sur internet et que tout était expliqué. J’ai fait ce qu’elle a dit et réalisé que j’avais besoin d’un code pour m’enregistrer. Il faudra donc que j’y retourne demain…
At one point, Emilie was getting bored, so I showed her her mental arithmetic book. She was enthusiastic and started a new page. A few minutes later, Alex came along and asked to do the opposite page. A few minutes of bliss. And then Emilie lost interest 🙁 Alex finished his page and wanted to finish hers as well. But still, it worked for a bit!
Emilie commençait à s’ennuyer, alors je lui ai montré son livre d’arithmétique mentale. Elle était enthousiaste et a commencé une nouvelle page. Quelques minutes plus tard, Alex est venu et a demandé à faire la page opposée. Quelques minutes de bonheur. Et puis Emilie a perdu tout intérêt 🙁 Alex a terminé sa page et voulait aussi finir celle d’Emilie.
In the afternoon, we decided to go to Alex’s school to see how he can get there in September and see what it looks like. So I checked on Google Maps what the best itinerary was. They advised to take a bus # 5 not far from where we lived. So we went. But there was no bus stop indicating bus # 5. After waiting for 10 minutes, I decided to walk there. Thank god, Alex asked to buy a bottle of water. It was very hot and very sunny. Google Maps said we had to walk 23 minutes. It took us 1 hour to get there. The road is steep and most of it was under an unforgivable sun. We eventually arrived in front of the school and had a good look around. After that, we just wanted to go back home as soon as possible. We all had enough of this. So we went to the main road. Once again, we found the bus stop but there was no indication for bus # 5. After looking around, walking along the road and getting very frustrated and hot, Alex asked the shop nearest to the bus stop. They explained to us that the bus # 5 was a minibus. We just needed to hail it. There was no stop for it. After another 10 minutes wait, we saw the minibus and hopped in. Thankfully, we were seating in a bus, getting us fast back home.
Dans l’après-midi, nous avons décidé d’aller à l’école d’Alex pour voir comment il pourrait s’y rendre en septembre et voir à quoi elle ressemble. J’ai donc regardé sur Google Maps quel était le meilleur itinéraire. Il conseillait de prendre un bus n ° 5 non loin de chez nous. Nous voilà en route. Mais il n’y avait pas d’arrêt de bus indiquant le bus n ° 5. Après avoir attendu 10 minutes, j’ai décidé de marcher là-bas. Dieu merci, Alex a demandé à acheter une bouteille d’eau. Il faisait très chaud et très ensoleillé. Google Maps disait qu’il fallait 23 minutes de marche pour y arriver. Ça nous a pris 1 heure. La route est raide et la presque tout le chemin étaient sous un soleil écrasant. Nous sommes finalement arrivés devant l’école et avons jeté un coup d’œil autour de nous. Après cela, nous voulions juste rentrer le plus rapidement possible. Nous en avions tous assez. Nous sommes donc allés sur la route principale. Une fois de plus, nous avons trouvé l’arrêt de bus, mais il n’y avait aucune indication pour le bus n ° 5. Après avoir regardé autour, marcher le long de la route et être très agacés et avoir très chaud, Alex a demandé au magasin le plus proche de l’arrêt de bus. On nous a expliqué que le bus n ° 5 était un minibus. Il fallait juste besoin de lui faire signe. Il n’y avait pas d’arrêt spécifiques. Après 10 minutes d’attente, nous avons vu le minibus et avons sauté dedans. Heureusement, nous étions assis dans un bus nous ramenant rapidement à la maison.
This day was very disheartening for me. I had the feeling everything I tried failed, that I just didn’t understand anything. I felt really low. I had no money or almost none left, I didn’t understand the basic things at the bank or for the buses. The 2 good things were that I had my sister and mum on the phone. So at least, I could express how lost I was and I felt better afterward.
Cette journée a été très décourageante pour moi. J’ai eu l’impression que tout ce que j’entreprenais échouait, que je ne comprenais rien à rien. Je n’avais presque plus d’argent, je ne comprenais pas les choses de base à la banque ou pour les bus. Heureusement, j’ai eu ma sœur et ma mère au téléphone. Je me sentais mieux après.
