It was by far the worst night. We all went to sleep early enough, same as Sunday. But the jet lag effect struck. At 1 am, Alex and Emilie were up, not able to sleep (but fighting!). I went to sleep with Emilie in her bed and stayed until we were all asleep, some times around 3.30 / 4 am. Even with a lie in, we were all very tired.
C’était de loin la pire nuit. Nous sommes tous allés nous coucher assez tôt, comme dimanche. Mais le décalage horaire a frappé. À 1 heure du matin, Alex et Emilie étaient debout, incapables de dormir (mais par contre ils se disputaient !). Je suis allée dormir avec Emilie dans son lit et je suis restée jusqu’à ce que nous soyons endormis tous les trois, sans doute vers 3h30 / 4h du matin. Même avec une grasse matinée, nous étions tous très fatigués.
I tried the small gym in the building and decided to run 30 minutes. That was hard! By the time the cleaning ladies had done the flat, I was ready (I needed an extra hour to get over the exercises!) and we had lunch, it was nearly 2 pm.
J’ai essayé la petite salle de gym qui se trouve en bas de l’immeuble et j’ai décidé de courir 30 minutes. C’était dur ! Ensuite les femmes de ménage sont passées nettoyer l’appartement, je me suis préparée (ça m’a pris une heure de plus que d’habitude !), puis nous avons déjeuné. Après tout ça, il était presque 14 heures.
But we still had a few things to do. I went to the bank as my card wasn’t working. As it turned out, it wasn’t activated (oops!). We had been invited to Sebastien’s boss, so I needed to get some ingredients for a salad. That was our daily walk: going to the supermarket and see what was on offer. Interesting to see the differences between our regular Sainsburys.
Nous avions néanmoins quelques petites choses à faire. Je suis d’abord allée à la banque car ma carte ne fonctionnait pas. Il s’est avéré qu’elle n’avait pas été activée (oups!). Comme nous étions invités chez le boss de Sébastien dans la soirée, il me fallait quelques ingrédients pour faire une salade. Ce fut notre promenade quotidienne : aller au supermarché et voir ce qui était proposé. Intéressant de voir les différences avec le Leclerc français.
We were expected at 6pm, so we took a taxi around 5.30pm. We met Christophe, Heloise and their 3 girls. Alex and Emilie had a dip in the pool while we were waiting for Sebastien to come back from work. It feels very colonial having a glass of wine by the pool while waiting for your working husband to come home… I’m not sure I am going to get used to this.
Nous étions attendus à 18h, alors nous avons pris un taxi vers 17h30. Nous avons retrouvé Christophe, Heloise et leurs 3 filles. Alex et Emilie ont plongé dans la piscine pendant que nous attendions le retour de Sébastien. Ca fait très colonial de siroter un verre de vin au bord de la piscine en attendant que votre mari rentre à la maison après sa journée de travail … Je ne suis pas sûre que je vais m’y habituer.
We had a lovely time there. The BBQ was delicious. We were joined by a French family who was coming back from holidays in France and who lives in the same building as Christophe’s family. They’ve been living in Hong Kong for a few years so it was interesting to get their point of view. All in all, a very nice evening was spent 🙂
Nous avons passé un bon moment. Le barbecue était délicieux. Nous avons été rejoints par une famille française qui revenait de ses vacances en France et qui vit dans le même immeuble que la famille de Christophe. Ils vivent à Hong Kong depuis quelques années, c’était intéressant de discuter avec eux de leur expérience.
